Nobody at StackWell Pick has ridden a DYU bike, so this is not a verdict on how any of them handles the road. It is a guide built from DYU's own published pages — the US, UK, and EU storefronts, the policy and warranty pages, and the two independent reviews we could find — pointing out where the specs are consistent, where the brand contradicts itself, and where a DYU Cycle coupon code can quietly fail to apply.
What DYU sells and who it is for
DYU is a Chinese electric bike maker founded in 2016. According to the brand's own About page, DYU raised $1.7 million through a 2017 crowdfunding round it describes as "setting a record in the e-bike industry," entered Costco US in 2018, reached over 60 countries by 2021, and raised another $14 million in 2024. The brand does not name the crowdfunding platform or the 2024 investors, and both figures are the brand's own account rather than independently confirmed.
The catalogue is built for urban commuters who want a folding or compact e-bike under about $400, plus a smaller line of fat-tire and cargo models reaching to $999. DYU runs separate storefronts for the US (us.dyucycle.com), UK (uk.dyucycle.com), Germany and the EU (de.dyucycle.com and dyucycle.com), and the Netherlands, each with its own prices, model mix, and in some cases different published specs for the same bike.
The three axes to pick between
Buying DYU is really a choice on three axes: wheel size, motor power, and which storefront you order from. Fourteen-inch models (C3 Mini, C4 Mini, D3F Mini, X1 Mini, D3S, D3F) are the lightest and cheapest — most sit between $259 and $329 or £359 to €499, weigh around 19 to 20 kg, and claim ranges of 25 to 50 km. Twenty-inch models (T1, C9, SP1, M20, UX-BMX) run from €699 to £799 and bring either longer range (the C9's claimed 150 km) or fat tires (the M20 and UX-BMX). Twenty-six-inch city models (C5 Lite, C6, C7 Lite) sit around $399 to £499 and are the closest DYU gets to a traditional commuter frame.
Motor power tracks the market where the bike is sold rather than the model itself. The same model name can carry different motor ratings depending on the region: the D3F is listed as 350W on the US site but 250W on the UK and EU sites, and DYU does not reconcile the two. If motor output matters to you, read the specs on the exact storefront you plan to order from, not the brand's global page.
Specific numbers and regional pricing
The best-documented models in DYU's own catalogue sit at the two ends of the price range. On the US site, the DYU C7 Lite is a 26-inch city bike with a 250W brushless rear-hub motor (peak 1000W), a 48V 10.4Ah battery (480Wh, IP54), a 20 mph top speed, a claimed 45-mile range on pedal assist and 40 miles on throttle, Shimano 7-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes, a 265 lb load capacity, and a 61.55 lb weight for $399 (listed down from $589). The DYU M20, a 20-inch fat-tire bike, pairs a 750W rated motor (1500W peak) with a 48V 18.2Ah battery, claims 100 miles of range, 28 mph top speed, and a 35-degree climbing angle, and sells for $999 (listed down from $1,399).
On the European storefront, the DYU C9 long-range folder is the model with the deepest published spec sheet: a 250W motor, a 48V 15.6Ah battery, 20x3.0-inch fat tires, hydraulic disc brakes, an aluminum frame, 25 km/h top speed, 30 kg weight, 120 kg load capacity, and a claimed 150 km range for €999 (listed down from €1,399). The DYU D3S folder is the cheapest EU entry at €499, with a 19 kg weight and a claimed 50 km range. The DYU SP1, by contrast, is sold at €1,099 with a 14 kg weight and a removable "power-bank" battery, but DYU publishes no motor wattage, battery capacity, or range for it on the German site — a strange omission for the brand's second-most expensive folder.
Across all storefronts, DYU's folding bikes run $259 to $329 on the US site, £359 to £699 on the UK site, and €499 to €1,099 on the EU site. The 26-inch city line runs $399 (US C7 Lite), £499 (UK C6), and €629 (EU C6). The 20-inch fat-tire models sit at $799 (UX-BMX) and $999 (M20) in the US, £799 for the M20 in the UK, and €899 for the M20 on the global EU site. The CampX electric cargo trailer — a dual-drive 1200W rear motor rated for a 772 lb load, four-way folding, Ackermann steering — is listed at $999 or €999, depending on storefront. DYU does not say whether these prices include VAT on the European sites or sales tax on the US site, so check the checkout total rather than the listed price if tax matters to the decision.
Shipping — read the free-ship threshold carefully
DYU publishes a free-shipping threshold of $100 on the US site, £100 on the UK site, and €100 on the EU site, with a stated delivery window of three to five business days (two for order processing plus two to three for transit). On the US site, DYU warehouses ship from the US and Hong Kong. The EU site ships from Poland, Germany, and Spain to 24 European countries. The UK site ships only within mainland UK.
DYU does not publish whether the free-shipping threshold is calculated before or after a discount code applies. If your order is close to the threshold, a 20% coupon can quietly tip you back under it and add shipping cost that the listed price did not warn you about. Check the shipping line at checkout, not the product page.
The US site also lists a long "we do not ship here" list: Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, and APO/FPO Armed Forces addresses. If you are shipping to any of these, the order simply will not go through.
Returns — DYU contradicts itself on this one
DYU publishes two different versions of its US return policy, and they do not agree. The Refund Policy page describes a 30-day return window with a flat €200 fee per bike deducted from the refund for returns not caused by a defect (yes, in euros, on a USD-priced site — DYU does not explain the currency mismatch), €100 for battery returns, and a restocking fee the page mentions but does not quantify. The Terms of Service page instead describes a 30-day "Unconditional Refund" on unopened items, a 7-day DOA guarantee for shipping damage, and a one-year repair warranty, with no deducted fees mentioned. Neither page refers to the other, and DYU does not say which one governs.
On the UK site, the equivalent policy is clearer: a 30-day window, a flat £200 shipping fee deducted for returns not caused by a defect, £100 for battery returns, and the customer pays return shipping. The EU/global policy similarly deducts €200 per bike and €100 per battery.
In all three regions, bikes must be unused, show less than 10 km on the odometer, and arrive in the original packaging to qualify. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility unless DYU confirms the item was defective. If your return fits the policy, DYU says refunds are processed within three business days of inspection, plus 7 to 14 days for the bank to credit the account.
Warranty
DYU's warranty is one year from the date of delivery for the first owner, covering manufacturing defects. The frame carries a one-year replacement warranty, the battery is prorated across the first year, and DYU-branded parts and components carry a one-year warranty. Normal wear items — brake pads, tires, chain, freewheel — are not covered. The warranty is void if the serial number is removed, the battery seal is broken, a non-approved charger is used, or the bike is assembled or used outside the instructions. Shipping damage must be reported within 7 days of delivery.
One wrinkle: the German storefront's homepage advertises "12-24 Monate Garantie" (12 to 24 months warranty), while DYU's detailed warranty page on the same site only describes a one-year limited warranty. The brand does not say what, if anything, extends coverage to 24 months. If you are buying through the German site specifically because of a 24-month claim, confirm the condition in writing before you pay.
What DYU does not publish
Several things that commonly matter at purchase or claim time are missing from DYU's public pages. The brand does not publish whether its free-shipping threshold is calculated before or after a discount code. It does not quantify the restocking fee it mentions in the US refund policy. It does not state the condition that would unlock the 24-month warranty the German storefront advertises. It does not publish full specs for the SP1, UX-BMX, or C5 Lite — motor wattage, battery capacity, and range are missing from one or more of these. It does not publish charging times for any model. It does not publish a physical store address — the "Find A Store" page returns a 404.
Where DYU does not publish a number, two independent reviews have. According to Electric Bike Report (Sam Gross, January 2023), a DYU D3F review unit measured a 29.65-mile real range on pedal assist, a 13.6 mph assist top speed, and a 240W motor output on the bench — not the 350W the US site advertises. According to Electric Wheelers (Jarmo Habakuk, March 2024), a DYU D3F Mini test unit delivered a 30-mile real range against the brand's "up to 37 miles" claim, had a non-removable 36V 10Ah battery (DYU's product page says 7.8Ah), and felt "twitchy" at speed because of the 14-inch wheels and lack of suspension. These are two outside measurements, not warranty figures — but they are the only independent numbers that exist, and they do not agree with DYU's own specs on either model.
Who should skip DYU
Skip DYU if you need a return policy you can read in one place and act on without a phone call — the US version is published in two mutually contradictory forms, and DYU does not say which one wins. Skip it if a 24-month warranty is a hard requirement — DYU advertises that on the German homepage but does not back it on the warranty page itself. Skip the SP1, UX-BMX, and C5 Lite if you need published motor and battery specs before you buy, because DYU does not provide them. And skip the D3F and D3F Mini specifically if you were buying for the motor power on the spec sheet — according to Electric Bike Report, the D3F measured well below the 350W number DYU's US site publishes.
If you weigh above the published load limits (120 kg across most models, with the M20 reaching 265 lb and the CampX trailer reaching 772 lb for cargo), DYU does not publish an exceeding-load exception, so pick a model whose rated capacity gives you headroom.
Check before you pay
- Confirm the storefront matches your shipping address — the US, UK, and EU sites carry different model mixes, different motor ratings for the same model name, and different return terms.
- Check the shipping line at checkout, not the product page — DYU does not publish whether its $100 / £100 / €100 free-shipping threshold is calculated before or after a coupon applies, so a 20% discount can push a borderline order back under it.
- If you want the German site's "12-24 Monate" warranty, email the brand first and get the condition in writing — DYU's own warranty page only describes a one-year limited warranty.
- If you are returning for any reason other than a confirmed defect, expect to lose roughly £200 / €200 / $200 per bike plus £100 / €100 / $100 per battery from your refund, and to pay return shipping yourself.
- The code CODESALE20 (20% off a first order) is DYU's only publicly advertised coupon — a flag that the deal is not limited to any one site, including this one.
DYU Cycle coupon code conditions
DYU offers one publicly listed code, CODESALE20, described in its own FAQ and Terms of Service as 20% off a first order. DYU does not publish a minimum order amount, a list of excluded products, whether the code stacks with ongoing sales, or an expiry date, per the terms DYU publishes on its own policy page. We have not run the code through a live checkout, so if the total at checkout does not reflect the discount, assume one of the undisclosed conditions is biting. The code reads from DYU's own pages as a sitewide one, so it is not an offer that is only here, and we do not describe it that way.
The 20% is calculated on the order subtotal, so a close-to-threshold order can lose free shipping once the discount applies. If you are shopping for a cheaper folder in the $259 to $329 range, the discount lands you under or near the free-ship cutoff on the US site; it is worth checking the shipping line before confirming the order.
If you want to see the current DYU Cycle discount alongside the full offer terms we have on file, our DYU store page lists it in one place with the restrictions written out. If you want to go straight to the brand with the discount applied, the DYU Cycle coupon code link points to the EU storefront, where the C9 and M20 both have the most consistent published specs across DYU's sites.
